These monumental lanterns were designed by Andrew Bevolo, Sr. and built by Master Coppersmith James Bevolo for the D.H. Holmes Department Store on world famous Canal Street. These lanterns hung for decades directly above the infamous “Holmes Clock”; a popular meeting place for locals. The legend of the clock grew when Ignatius P Reilly, the character from John Kennedy Toole’s book, Confederacy of Dunces uses this setting as his hangout. These lanterns became so iconic, that they were added to the D.H. Holmes shopping bags. Read Less
