WHAT DO WE MAKE OUR LIGHTS OUT OF? WHY DO WE USE COPPER? WHY NOT OTHER METALS?

When you purchase a Bevolo lantern, you're making a lifetime investment! For 70 years, Bevolo has handcrafted lanterns in New Orleans from the highest quality American mined copper. Copper is corrosive resistant, malleable, durable, long-lasting metal that responds well to temperature extremes. These properties make copper an excellent material for our fixtures and a popular building material for roofs, flashings, gutters, domes, vaults and doors. For these reasons, copper has been used in architecture for hundreds of years. Although the initial investment for copper is greater than other metals like aluminum and zinc, it pays for itself in performance and lifespan.

In many cases, we can fabricate our fixtures from 316 stainless steel - an alloy with increased corrosive resistances and greater strength at elevated temperatures. Stainless steel fixtures work well in contemporary spaces. It also gives a transitional twist to classic designs.

WHAT FINISHES OR COLORS DO YOUR LIGHTS COME IN? DO YOU HAVE BLACK OR OIL RUBBED BRONZE FINISH?

Oxidizing Bevolo fixtures ensures the age of the lantern gracefully and evenly over time. Our signature oxidation has become a Bevolo trademark - a beautiful, antiqued copper hue with warm caramel undertones. This sought-after color is exclusive to Bevolo and is used on nearly all of our lights. For clients who desire an almost black or oil-rubbed bronze finish, dark oxidation may be an option. Dark oxidation further accelerates the copper aging process reaching a deep brown shade that often reads as black from a distance.

WILL MY LIGHTS CHANGE COLORS?

One of the greatest characteristics of copper is that it will age with your home, developing a lovely patina. The speed at which your lanterns patina is determined by your climate. Climates with high humidity and close proximity to salt water tend to patina much faster than others and will eventually develop a verde-gris or green hue like the Statue of Liberty. We've seen lights reach a full patina in as little as twelve months and as long as fifty years. No two houses will have lights that age precisely the same.

WHAT IS THE CURRENT LEAD TIME? CAN I GET MY LIGHTS EXPEDITED?

Current lead time is 10 weeks. Rush orders are a 25% rush fee for 8 weeks. Contact us for additional information.

WHAT IF I LIVE IN A HIGH WIND AREA?

Bevolo fixtures are designed to hold up to normal wind conditions, but in areas with excessive winds, such as the Bahamas, Texas, Oklahoma and coastal areas etc., further measures can be taken. Bevolo offers a wind baffle which is a discrete secondary wind blocker that easily attaches to the gas jet assembly. This can be added when placing your order; it is also something that can be installed relatively easily in the field. The piece itself is made from borosilicate glass that holds up very well to heat. For images or installation instruction, please call (504) 522-9485 or contact our sales team.

HOW DO I LIGHT MY BEVOLO LANTERN?

FLAME BLOWING OUT SOLUTIONS:

We engineer our copper fixtures to last a lifetime and burn continuously in all climates across the globe. We take great care to ensure the gas flame does not blow out. However, under rare circumstances such as high winds, high altitudes, or atypical light placements, customers may experience issues keeping their lanterns burning.

To trouble shoot flame blow outs, try these 6 quick and easy tips:

  1. Check for any obstruction or damage to the porcelain tip or discreet/hairline cracks in the glass. Bevolo offers replacement glass and replacement tips designed exclusively for Bevolo Lanterns.

  2. Ensure the glass panes are snug and tight against the light frame, by pressing the small copper tabs firmly (like the back of a picture frame). The glass can shift during installation or shipping, causing small air drafts within the light.

  3. Ensure the proper flame height. For smaller lanterns, the flame height should be approximately 1.5 inch to 2 inches tall. 2 to 2.5 inches for larger lights. Flames that are too big or small can lead to blow out issues.

  4. You should always make sure the bottom of your fixture is clear of any debris to ensure proper ventilation; however, if you have continuous issues with the flame going out, sometimes it's beneficial to reduce airflow. This can be done by placing pennies on every other ventilation hole to reduce the wind flow.

  5. The problem persists, please snap a picture of the installation; ideally, photos looking at the top and bottom of the light from inside, close up from outside, and from far enough away to see roof line so that we can fully understand the application. Forward those photos to us via email (gaslights@bevolo.com) for a professional evaluation.

  6. If these quick tips didn't work for you, Bevolo offers a wind baffle, a discrete secondary wind guard that attaches to the gas jet assembly. This can be installed on the burner tip to protect the flame from blowing out in high or unique wind situations; it is also something that can be installed easily in the field.

SHOULD I USE AN ELECTRONIC IGNITER TO TURN MY GAS LIGHTS ON AND OFF?

Bevolo does offer the best Electronic Igniter in the industry. Deciding on whether or not to use an Electronic Igniter is something that should be considered based on the individual situation. Under many circumstances, Electronic Igniters are not necessary. One of the reasons people choose Bevolo lights is due to the efficiency of their Burner assembly. With an 800-1200 BTU burner the average cost of leaving a lantern on continuously is $7-$11. If using an igniter were to save $3.50-$5.50 (half) per month, then it would take anywhere from 8 to 13 years to cover the initial cost of the igniter without any additional maintenance or replacement costs considered. In some circumstances the added convenience of a switch or ability for the lantern to re-ignite justifies the expense; Situations where the lantern is hard to access, on a second home, or sometimes in commercial applications would increase the attractiveness of this feature. Please contact a Bevolo Lighting Designer for further details.

You can call (504) 522-9485 for a Lighting Designer.

ENERGY STAR COMPLIANT & TITLE 24:

TITLE 24: UPDATED The California Energy Code, or Title 24, Part 6 of the California Code of Regulations, also titled The Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings, was established in 1978 to reduce California's energy consumption. It is an energy initiative that the state passed that has banned incandescent bulbs. In order to keep people from using incandescent bulbs there had been a code that required a special socket that does not accept incandescent bulbs. Recently the JA8 amendment allows for standard medium-based (E26) sockets as well as Candelabra Sockets (E14) to be used if the installer uses JA8 compliant bulbs. These bulbs are readily available in areas that require them. After the update to this law was made the Standard Electrical setup that comes with Bevolo Electric lanterns is appropriate for Title 24 areas.
