Elegant antique fireback or "ofenplatte" from France; crafted under the reign of king Louis XV, circa 1750, the large plaque depicts a mythological scene with a female surrounded by cherubs. Framed with grapevines and florals with more cherubs looking on. This fireback has a wonderful old patina from years of being used in a mantel.
